Professional learning announcement 2020-21 school year

June 2020 – Char-Em ISD remains committed to providing meaningful professional learning opportunities for educators across Charlevoix, Emmet and northern Antrim counties in the school year ahead.

The ISD’s Professional Learning team has gathered feedback from local district administrators and ISD staff and has carefully considered guidance documents about how to best deliver professional learning in 2020-21. It has been decided that all professional learning for the first half of the school year – from August to December 2020 – will be delivered virtually in an online format. The annual Area-Wide Professional Learning Day, scheduled for Nov. 6, 2020, will not take place in person.

While we value the time spent learning together as professionals, we know that during this coming school year your students will need you more than ever. Your time in the classroom will be critical in supporting our children both academically and emotionally.

You can be assured that Char-Em will continue to offer learning opportunities needed to maintain certifications required by state and federal mandates/law.  Whenever possible we will continue to offer continuing education credits in conjunction with these opportunities.

We welcome your feedback as we navigate this new learning approach together and look forward to connecting with you and continuing our learning journey in the months ahead!

The Perfect Blend: A Practical Guide to Designing Student-Centered Learning Experiences

( 07/20/2020 )
This virtual book study will focus on understanding and reflecting on your role as a designer of learning experiences and much more!

MyPD – MI Virtual

Educators today are agents of their own learning, engaging in informal networks and independent pursuits for personal growth and development. Michigan Virtual’s MyPD is a vehicle to formally honor educators’ informal learning efforts. Through this SCECH-bearing experience, educators will engage in a process to tell the story of their independent learning journey, tying a specific learning objective to evidence of informal learning pursuits, reflecting on learning from those pursuits, and developing an action plan based on the professional implications that have emerged. A true model of adult learning theory, this learning experience offers maximum autonomy with supportive guidance, seeks to validate the experience of today’s educators, and creates a holding space for educators to focus on a problem relevant to their own context.

About Char-Em Professional Learning

Char-Em ISD believes that professional learning should be based on research and result in a permanent change of knowledge or behavior of the participants and their professional practice.  A variety of learning opportunities are made available that support school improvement goals, educational initiatives, and personnel development that are aligned with the Michigan School Improvement Framework.

All school personnel within the Char-Em ISD service area have the opportunity to participate throughout the school year, as well as during the Area Wide Professional Learning Day traditionally held on or near Nov. 1.
