Professional Learning will remain online through remainder of school year

Jan. 21, 2021 – Char-Em ISD remains committed to providing meaningful professional learning opportunities for educators across Charlevoix, Emmet and northern Antrim counties as we navigate the second half of the 2020-21 school year. In response to the continuing unknowns regarding the pandemic, CEISD will offer workshops and professional learning opportunities in an online format through the end of this school year, June 2021. Your safety, both physical and psychological, is of the utmost importance to us as we make these difficult decisions. We will evaluate how to deliver summer professional learning closer to that timeframe.

Char-Em continues to offer learning opportunities needed to maintain certifications required by state and federal mandates/law. Whenever possible, we will offer continuing education credits in conjunction with these opportunities. We look forward to the time when we can all collaborate in person for shared professional learning experiences. Until then, please let us know how we can continue to support the amazing work you do for our students!

Important SCECHs reminder about changes in process

Please remember to check all of your certification due dates and renewal deadlines. Most of the educator certifications are housed in MDE’s MOECs site.  Also, please remember that new for the 2020-21 school year, educators are NOT able to input any District Provided Professional Development (DPPD) hours into the MOEC’s website as they may have done in the past. All DPPD provided throughout the 2020-21 school year, to be used for certification renewal, needs to be done via SCECHs. This format will be continuing for the foreseeable future.

MyPD – MI Virtual

Educators today are agents of their own learning, engaging in informal networks and independent pursuits for personal growth and development. Michigan Virtual’s MyPD is a vehicle to formally honor educators’ informal learning efforts. Through this SCECH-bearing experience, educators will engage in a process to tell the story of their independent learning journey, tying a specific learning objective to evidence of informal learning pursuits, reflecting on learning from those pursuits, and developing an action plan based on the professional implications that have emerged. A true model of adult learning theory, this learning experience offers maximum autonomy with supportive guidance, seeks to validate the experience of today’s educators, and creates a holding space for educators to focus on a problem relevant to their own context.

About Char-Em Professional Learning

Char-Em ISD believes that professional learning should be based on research and result in a permanent change of knowledge or behavior of the participants and their professional practice.  A variety of learning opportunities are made available that support school improvement goals, educational initiatives, and personnel development that are aligned with the Michigan School Improvement Framework.

All school personnel within the Char-Em ISD service area have the opportunity to participate throughout the school year, as well as during the Area Wide Professional Learning Day traditionally held on or near Nov. 1.
