Voters throughout Char-Em ISD overwhelmingly approved the four-year renewal of the Career and Technical Education Millage in Tuesday’s election, May 8, 2018. The millage renewal was approved 4,314 to 2,038, or a 68 percent approval (unofficial results).
The 0.75 of a mill funds vocational programming throughout the ISD’s 11 school districts. Along with its district partners, Char-Em offers 42 programs in all ISD schools. More than 1,500 students participate in Char-Em CTE programs.
The millage funds will be used to continue operation of Career-Tech programs throughout the ISD; for equipment and technology needs and instruction and classroom materials; student career counseling; CTE curriculum development; assistance with Direct Credit/Early College; to create new opportunities for students that reflect current job market needs and trends; and other purposes.
“It is very gratifying to see the widespread support for career and technical education programs in Northwest Michigan,” said Jeff Crouse, Char-Em ISD Superintendent. “This is a region that believes in providing all students with solid, post-secondary options as they prepare for life after high school. Our CTE department works with all students on career and college readiness, and the programs offered in local districts are meeting those needs on a daily basis. We are so grateful that our communities continue to place their trust in our educators and in the ISD to provide critical vocational training to our high school students.”
