Char-Em ISD is a critical partner of the Great Start Collaborative (GSC).
GSCs serve as the early childhood system-building bodies across Michigan. As one of 54 Collaboratives, they work in our local community to advance the four shared outcomes prescribed by the Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential’s Office of Early Childhood Education:
Outcome 1: Children are born healthy
Outcome 2: Children are healthy, thriving, and developmentally on track from birth to third grade
Outcome 3: Children are developmentally ready to succeed in school at the time of school entry
Outcome 4: Children are prepared to succeed in fourth grade and beyond by reading proficiently by the end of third grade
Great Start Collaboratives bring together parents and caregivers, community leaders, and organizations invested in the early childhood system. Together they explore the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats that either support or create barriers to all children having the opportunity to achieve these desired outcomes. To ensure the Collaborative is informed and responsive to the current needs of children and families, the Great Start Family Coalition provides a parent and caregiver perspective based on the lived experience of raising young children within our local early childhood system.
