CPI Refresher: Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training 2024-25
Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training gives staff the skills to recognize and respond to crises that may involve more challenging behaviors. This training is for participants who have previously completed Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training (NVCI) within the last two years. This is a recertification training opportunity for staff members who have current CPI certification. As a reminder, certifications are valid for two years. Completion of a refresher course is required to maintain certification in use of Nonviolent Crisis Intervention strategies and procedures.

Learner Outcomes
- Identify and know how to respond to varying levels of crisis behaviors.
- Develop limit-setting strategies to de-escalate crisis behavior.
- Understand the importance of proactive strategies to reduce crisis behavior.
- Understand the principles of Trauma Informed Care
- Understand the risks of restraints and their use only as a last resort.
- Learn safety interventions and review physical skills to maximize safety and minimize harm
