Guardianships & Alternatives
When your child turns 18, you no longer have the legal right to make decisions for him or her. Yet people with disabilities sometimes need help with making choices. Guardianship means that another person, the guardian, is appointed to make decisions on behalf of a person with a disability.

Learn about the guardianship process and alternatives for people with disabilities and their families.

Community Agencies
Planning for adulthood takes collaboration within the community. Char-Em ISD values its partnership with Michigan Rehabilitation Services, Disability Network, and Community Mental Health. These agencies work with people with disabilities, their families, and school staff to develop and execute a quality, individualized, and self-directed post-secondary plan. Representatives from each of these agencies will be sharing the services that can be offered to support post-secondary goals and next steps to getting connected.
