Sold a Story: How Teaching Kids to Read Went So Wrong Professional Learning and Reflection

Emily Hanford has been working in public media for more than two decades as a reporter, producer, editor, news director and program host. Her work has won numerous honors including the Excellence in Media Reporting on Education Research Award from the American Educational Research Association. In 2022, Hanford released her most recent work, a six-episode podcast titled, “Sold a Story: How Teaching Kids to Read Went So Wrong.”  Through the series, Hanford surfaces how research about the “science of reading” intersects with current methods, causing educators across the country to reflect on their practices and mindsets about how students learn to read.

This course is a self-paced, asynchronous learning opportunity; therefore, you can complete your learning and application when it works best for you (ensuring that all work is done between February 1 and May 1, 2023 for SCECH credit).

Facilitator

Michael Haynes, Char-Em ISD Instructional Services Director
