Social Studies that Sticks: Implementing Inquiry with Integrity
As the push to practice inquiry - the act of asking questions, seeking the answers, creating, evaluating, and critiquing evidentiary support, and communicating conclusions - becomes ever more prevalent in Michigan's social studies classrooms, it is important that educational teams begin examining and implementing effective inquiry-based practices in their classrooms. This three-part series will provide a road map and opportunities for collaboration and development of inquiry practices across Char-Em ISD.
- Examine and unpack the “arc of inquiry” and other relevant standards-based documents to evaluate the effectiveness of current disciplinary gaps.
- Study, examine and utilize inquiry-based practices in the social studies classroom.
- Develop a network of like-minded professional learning community contacts to reinforce and define inquiry-based practices in the social studies classroom.
