Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Course Jan-March 2022

MBSR is an 8-week evidence-based, experiential program designed to provide practices to foster increased stress management and well-being. This in-depth training is highly participatory and explores both mindful meditation and movement practices. PLEASE NOTE:  Class size is limited to 30 participants.

This course will be conducted virtually through Zoom. The experiential nature of this class requires audio and video access. A Zoom link will be shared by the instructor through email prior to the course start date.

Schedule:

Orientation - Mon, Jan. 17 - 6-8:30 p.m.

Classes - Jan. 24, 31, Feb. 7, 14, 21, 28, and March 7, 14 - 6-8:30 p.m.

All Day Retreat - Sat, Feb. 26 - 8:45 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.

Presenters:

Amy Janssens, MA, and Heidi Stark, M.Ed. are trained MBSR teachers through Brown University's School of Public Health. Both hold teaching licensures. Amy is a Certified Mindfulness Instructor through Mindful Schools and Heidi is a Registered Yoga Teachers (RYT500).

Cost:

$100 per person for ALL school district staff within the Char-Em ISD service area.

$625 per person for anyone outside of the Char-Em ISD service area. (Sliding scale available)

Target Audience

Teachers pre-K thru grade 12, administrators, counselors, ISD staff, paraprofessionals, support staff, community partners/agencies. All are welcome on this exploration. Bring a  willingness to learn and your curiosity!

Learner Outcomes

  • Ability to cope more effectively with both short-term and long-term stressful situations within the classroom and school environment.
  • Greater energy and enthusiasm while teaching.
  • Increased ability to relax during and outside of work hours.
  • Capacity to hold greater patience and understanding for the upset of others.
  • Increased creative problem solving abilities due to decreases in stress and anxiety.

Pending approval, State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs) will be available for this session.
