Specialized
transportation is available for certain eligible
handicapped students according to the student's
Individualized Education Plan. Special transportation
is designed to meet the needs of handicapped students
in transporting them to special programs. Special
transportation may include wheelchair lifts and
special restraints for students when necessary.
Who can take advantage of Specialized Transportation?
Students enrolled in the Char-Em ISD programs.
Financial assistance and training are also provided
to all local school districts when adaptive equipment
is needed for transporting handicapped students.
A special education student's Individual Education
Plan would indicate that special adaptations are
needed to transport the student safely. A transportation
plan involving parents, support personnel (such
as the occupational or physical therapist), bus
driver and bus supervisor in the local district
is developed to provide the safest method of transportation
possible for the student.
