What
is this service?
School social workers provide services to students
from kindergarten through grade twelve who have
demonstrated difficulty in learning and/or getting
along with others.
Who
do we serve?
Students who have or are suspected of having a
disability. Also teacher, principles, and other
staff who work with the student. The social worker
acts as a bridge between home, school and the
community.
How
do we serve?
School
social workers provide:
- social
and emotional assessment and recommendation
as part of evaluation for special education
services
- direct
counseling services to special education students
through individual or group settings
- consultation
to teachers on behavioral management techniques
and social skills training
- crisis
intervention to help families cope with stressful
situations like divorce, death, sickness and
family discord
- promotion
and development of programs that will provide
opportunities for the child while in school
and during transition to the world of work
