What
is this service?
The Be-Four School Project is a family education
program focused on improving the school readiness
and success of four year old children. Home visits
are made to each enrolled family on a schedule,
from October through the following September,
determined by parents and the home visitor working
with the family. The goals of the program are
to increase children's skills, assist families
in finding support services and information, and
support parents in their roles as their children's
first teacher.
Who
do we serve?
Families with four year old children who
meet eligibility criteria defined by the Michigan
State Board of Education.
How
do we serve?
On the first several home visits, each family
decides the goals and skills they would like to
work on with their four year old during the program
year. The Home Visitor and the program provide:
- thirty
home visits to each child and parent enrolled
in the program
- home
learning activities that parents and child take
part in during each visit
- handout,
discussions and information for parents on school
readiness, child development and other topics
of interest
- group
activities for the whole family, including field
trips
- activities
that help the child and family successfully
move into the local district kindergarten, including
assistance with kindergarten registration
