What
is this service?
A
supportive, academic setting for school-age parents
and at-risk students which offers a life skills
curriculum. The school-age parent program provides
on-site child care.
Who
do we serve?
The
Alternative Programs serve pregnant and parenting
teens (including fathers), and at-risk and court
placed youth who are working towards high school
completion and reside anywhere within
the Char-Em ISD District.
How
do we serve?
The
Alternative Programs provide:
- teach
students functional independence through a skill
development curriculum
- support
students and their families through home visits
- promote
open communication among students, families
and community agencies
- advocate
for severely impaired students and encourage
placement in the "least restrictive environment"
possible
- foster
relationships severely impaired students and
their peers in general education through inclusion
experiences in the regular school setting
- foster
community relationships by providing experiences
within the community setting
